About me.

Hi!!!

My name is Julia Haight  and dogs are what gets me up every day with a smile.

They are the purest thing in the world. No matter what else is going on in the human world all they care about is that you are home, or in the car, or on a walk, or in the yard and happy to see them too. Every day, even if I’m only running out for 10 minutes, when I get back my dogs greet me as though I’d been on safari for a month LOL.

When I was 13 I got my first dog of my own, and lost myself in the world of showing and training dogs, and I’ve happily lived there ever since. Friends and neighbors noticed how friendly and well behaved my dogs were and, at 14, I started an unofficial training business and I’ve never stopped. My 5 Shibas allow me to live with them, and I show and breed them, plus I’m heavily involved in an all breed rescue (AWFP) that is run out of the Virginia Tech Veterinary School.

My students currently include:

  • 14 therapy dogs

  • 1 military service dog

  • 4 obedience competition dogs

and many, many very happy pets that never have to worry about finding another home under my belt. I spend a lot of time getting to know my students, both human and canine, and try to individually tailor the curriculum so it suits what everyone wants and needs.

For me, as long as it’s a positive experience for everyone, there is no one way to train yourself and your best friend. That moment when my students, human and canine, click and start to work together instead of struggling against each other is, for me, the greatest thing in the world.

Tomi got a medal for bravery!
